Junior Achievement Ireland
Junior Achievement Ireland encourages young people to remain in education and helps them develop the skills they need to succeed in the world outside school. Through engagement with the programmes students are motivated in a enterprising manner and culture of innovational thinking. The programmes help students in the devlopment of skills such as communication, managing finances, intrerview preparation, science and mathamatical skills to help them progress once they leave the education system. Each programme will be delivered by a Junior Achievement volunteer who comes from the world of work. This not only means the above skills are delivered but students also get an expereince of different educational paths and experiences of the journey into the real working world.
Over the past number of years and continuing to date St Tieranans along with Junior Achievement Ireland have run some of the following programmes:
- Economics of Staying in School
- JA Enterprise in Action
- Futurewize
- Smart Futures
- Finance your Future
- Career Success
Each programme varies in length to 5-6 weeks with the volunteers visiting the class once a week. Volunteers will deliver a programme structured by JA while adding their life experiences to relevant sections. Students will be given different opportunities to ask questions and investigate the career path of the volunteer.
Examples of companies involved with the deliverance of programmes in St Tiernan’s Community school include but not limited to; EY, Central Bank of Ireland, Environmental Protection Agency, Mason Hayes and Curran, and AIB.
