Debating
In 2021, the St Tiernan’s Debating Union was launched. This union aimed to introduce 3rd-year students to the basic concepts of Debating culminating in their participation in the largest debating competition in Ireland, the Leinster Schools Debating Competition.
The pilot program was immensely successful. St Tiernans Community school concluded the year as Leinster Champions despite our students’ lack of experience relative to other competitors.
This year the St Tiernan’s Debating union will expand to be open to all-year groups. Additionally, we have partnered with the UCD Law Society to provide specialist coaching for our 1st-3rd year students from coaches who have represented Ireland in both the World and European Championships of debating.
Debating training will take place on Tuesday evenings for Senior students (4th-6th year) and on Thursday evenings for Junior students (1st-3rd year). Students of all levels of experience are welcome!
