LEAVING CERTIFICATE APPLIED - 2 YEAR PROGRAMME
The Leaving Certificate Applied is a relatively new approach to education and training. Students apply their knowledge, skills and experience to practical tasks at school, in the workplace and in the wider community.
The Course, which is taken over two years, challenges young people by setting major tasks. These tasks demand that students make links across the various courses they have taken, that they combine their experience and learning in these courses and that they apply their experience and learning to the task in hand.
It promotes personal and communication skills, initiative and enterprise, teamwork and high achievement. The Course prepares young people for adult and working life and enables them to make decisions about further education and training.
The Leaving Certificate Applied examination is carried out over the two years of the programme as well as at the end of the course. Students are assessed on their knowledge and understanding of the modules they have taken and on their attendance record. Their communication, problem solving, practical and interpersonal skills are also assessed.
