Girls in STEM Project

This year St Tiernan’s was afforded the opportunity to partake in a new initiative led by The School of Education and the School of Mathematics and Statistics. The research project was entitled “Girls in DEIS Schools: Changing Attitudes / Impacting Futures in STEM”.
The aim of the project was to develop and strengthen the interest and attitude of young girls in post primary schools in STEM. In the project students researched and explored the lives and impacts made by a number of female STEM pioneers, both past and present.
In December 2019, student representatives went along to UCD for a learning day. On the day student got to meet with representatives and supporters of the project, including Mrs Sabnia Higgins and got to view and learn from the projects of other schools. Students also engaged in a range of talks surrounding STEM.
