DEFIBRILLATOR URGENTLY REQUIRED FOR ST TIERNAN'S

                                                              Picture

We are anxious to get a defibrillator for the school.  With your help we can exchange old mobile phones which you longer use.

As we need 250 phones, we would appreciate it if you could donate your old mobile phones to the school as soon as possible.

Please contact Sr Eileen at the school.   Thank you.

                                                              RETIREMENT OF MR TIM GERAGHTY

                                                              Mr Tim Geraghty
The retirement of the Principal of St  Tiernan's Community School in August was an occasion of both sadness and joy for all of us in the school:  sadness, because the school was losing a wonderful leader, but joyful because Tim could enjoy what we all hope will be a long and healthy retirement.

Much of what St Tiernan's is owes itself to Tim Geraghty's inspirational vision.  He always promoted a sense of caring, generosity and inclusiveness throughout the school.  He knew each student personally and was interested in their welfare.  Each member of staff was seen as an individual and a friend. In return, the students, staff and Board of Management will always hold Tim in the highest regard.

The high level of resources and investment in the school throughout his years here are a fine testament to his dedication and insight. This has been recognised, not only in St Tiernan's, but throughout the country via organisations such as the NAPD, which Tim served as president with great distinction.

The staff of St Tiernan's have lost a great colleague and champion due to Tim's retirement and the students will miss a major presence in the school  We are very fortunate that his successor, Declan Hughes, and our new Deputy Principal, Gerard McCooey, will bring both continuity and their own superb individuality and leadership to the school.  While St Tiernan's will develop very positively from their creativity and commitment, the wonderful legacy of Tim Geraghty will continue to benefit this new era in the school.

We would like to wish Tim, together with his wife Ann and their extended family, a long, happy and fulfilling life ahead.

Thank you, Tim.  We really appreciate everything you have done for St Tiernan's.

                                                              UMOZA CHALLENGE

                                                              Picture
The Transition Year students organised a sponsored walk in May.

This was to raise funds for the Umoza Challenge, which is a school for street children in Northern Malawi, Africa, run under the auspices of the St John of God order.
The school feeds and educates destitute children and provides support. This charity project is the brainchild of famed Irish music producer, John Dunford, who sponsors the school, music teachers and workshops.

The President of Ireland Michael D Higgins recently requested that the organizer, John Dunford, join him for a private lunch at his official residence Aras an Uachatarain. He wanted to learn more of what is happening in Malawi and the work of St John of God there. He presented a copy of one of his poems Beyond the  Eye, which he wrote while in Kenya and which is being translated into Tumbuku.  A musical and dance treatment of this poem will follow.

Congratulations to the Transition Year class who were successful in raising a total of€900, which will make a huge difference to the project.  Amoza Challenge website at  http://umozachallenge.com/
